Film: Kuch Kuch Locha Hai Cast: Sunny Leone, Ram Kapoor, Evelyn Sharma, Navdeep Chabbra, Suchita Trivedi Director: Devang Dholakia Rating: 0.5/5 Sunny Leone's spectacular elevation in Bollywood's pecking order could make a good script for a racy thriller, but her choice of films could well burst the bubble around her enigma soon. Don’t believe me? Watch Kuch Kuch Locha Hai. Wait, let it be: It's just not worth it! Why should you bear the torture to understand the pain of a fellow human being! It’s not that sex comedies aren't leaving their mark on middle-class Indian subconsciousness, but for them to be effective, the films need to be penetrating in their content and presentation.
Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum and Grand Masti were panned for their tone and texture, but even they had their moments of laughter. Sunny Leone plays a film star Shanaya in Kuch Kuch Locha Hai. This Sunny Leone-starrer has nothing. In fact, it’s nowhere close to being called an entertainer, something the makers repeatedly promised in the promos. No, this is no rant from a former Sunny Leone fan. Let's introduce you to the premise. Praveen Patel (Ram Kapoor) is a Malaysia based Gujarati businessman, whose wife Kokila (Suchita Trivedi) is too much into prayers and devotional stuff.
It’s not like that the two don’t love each other, but the ‘spark’ is missing, which the director Devang Dholakia perceives as ‘sexual undercurrent’. Two lines of a song explain his situation: Biwi se darte hain, Sunny pe marte hain, Google pe raat din ye pooja unki karte hain. The Patel household also has a son Jigar (Navdeep Chabbra), fondly called Jiglo (!) by his mother.
Jigar is a Hrithik Roshan impersonator and is in love with his neighbor Naina (Evelyn Sharma), a bikini babe who likes to bathe in her neighbour’s pool. Sunny Leone is Ram Kapoor's dream date. Praveen Patel is a huge fan of film actor Shanaya (Sunny Leone), who first dances on Paani waala dance and then Daaru pike dance. Basically, you have to be drunk to find any thread in between the two songs. Anyway, she signs a film in which she has to play a Gujarati woman, and for that she comes to stay at the Patel villa. ‘Locha’ starts taking place at this point and keep on happening till ‘chemical locha’ begins in your head.
Hot summer upar se main bhi hot, aaj saath laga le mere do tequila shot: Sunny Leone arrives on screen with these lines and then a background voice says: Swimming pool me naha ke aur bhi namkeen ho gayi ho. As if murdering one good old hit was not enough, the very same song goes on like: Steel da liver tera, platinum da jigra, let’s do the paani waala dance befikra. Such lyrics really needed a writer!
However, if there is someone who should take offence from the songs of KKLH then it should be a Gulzar fan as another line in the same song goes like: Chai chappa chai paaniyon pe cheetein udaati hui ladki, psanad mujhe aati hain mummy kasam ladkiyan teri umar ki. Trust me, you wouldn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Kuch Kuch Locha Hai can't boast of a good script. Praveen Patel has a friend who thinks, 'Jo bhabhiyon se kare pyaar, wo hi kare shaadi se inkaar,' and then gives the audience a lesson in overacting. But, this much is very much acceptable in a film which names a stylist Roberto Mawali. There is absolutely no coherence in the story, screenplay and direction, and on top of it, the makers believe that the viewers wouldn’t find any difference in between a Gujarati woman and a Kenyan lady. Some of the scenes are so creepy that you wouldn’t even dare to sleep. Consider this one: Scene 1 Praveen (First time talking to Shanaya on phone): Aawaz toh kya mujhe toh aapki dhadkan bhui sunai de rahi hai.
Shanaya: How sweet!Scene 2 Shanaya: Main nikalun juice? Praveen: Kiska? Then they smile. Later, Shanaya conveniently forgets the earlier conversation and gives a long lecture on the flip side of dating an actress. Kuch Kuch Locha Hai fails to impress the audience. From Sunny Leone to Ram Kapoor, everybody appears oscillating in between the extreme ends of moral high ground and ‘chalta hai’.
Talking about their acting in the film would only insult their fans. Kuch Kuch Locha Hai is an insane, bizarre film with absolutely no intention of making the audience satiated in any which manner. Avoid it if you can. As far as the Sunny Leone fans are concerned, YouTube also has those songs.
